Stephen R. Paul

Steve's practice is primarily focused on civil litigation, subrogation, products liability, complex lawsuits in Federal and State Courts involving multiple parties and multiple claims, catastrophic injury claims, premises liability, medical malpractice, and personal injury and wrongful death.  

Steve graduated from Brown University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. In college, Steve traveled extensively. He worked for a travel agency in Paris, France. He was also employed at a resort on Hydra Island, a several hour boat ride from Athens, Greece. After college, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, California. Steve participated in the SCALE program at Southwestern.  

Steve is a member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar, and has been involved with many other professional organizations and associations including but not limited to the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and more.  He is licensed to practice in the Eastern, Middle, and Western Federal District Courts in North Carolina, and he is licensed to practice in every state court in North Carolina.   

Throughout his 39 year career, Steve has tried a substantial number of cases in Superior and District Courts of North Carolina.  These cases have included a 15 million dollar trial involving complex products liability claims, a 10 million dollar trial regarding catastrophic injury and paralysis claims, a 7 million dollar trial concerning severe debilitating injuries and punitive damages, numerous other significantly large and complex trials, and many trials regarding personal injury claims, fire losses, and motor vehicle accidents. Recently, in 2021, Steve obtained a $2,000,000.00 settlement for a client as a result of a medical malpractice claim. 

Steve has resided in Chapel Hill for the past 30 years. Both his sons attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and other family members are also Tar Heel alumna.
